Dig My Grave

DIG MY GRAVE
Broke and hungry, sad and lonely, ragged and dirty too
Jes’ want to know If I kin go home wid you
I ain’t good lookin’, ain’t no doctor, ain’t no doctor’s son
But I can cool your fever till the doctor comes
Or dig my grave, let me down real gentle
Dig my grave, let me down wid a golden chain
I’m a good ol’ boy, but I jes’ ain’t treated right
I’m a good ol’ boy, the freezin’ ground was my foldin’ bed las’ night
I’s tired of livin’, pretty mama, I don’t know what to do
I’s tired of livin’, you’s tired of me, I’s tired of you
Dig my grave, let me down real gentle
Dig my grave, let me down wid a golden chain
Dig a hole for me with a shiny silver spade
Dig a hole for me and let the maggots eat my bones away
They tell me de graveyard is a long ol’ lonesome place
They put you six feet in the ground... and throw clods
in yo’ face
Dig my grave, let me down real gentle
Dig my grave, let me down wid a golden chain
Let me down wid a golden chain
Let me down wid a golden chain

JOE D. GRINDER
Come clean and tell me
How can you sleep at night
After all the wrong you done to me
Any good woman would be cryin’
Come clean and tell me
How can you sleep at night
I’m serving time in the county jail
While you and Jody live the life
Folk in the chain gang say to me
“Ain't no need writin' home,
Ain’t no need a-frettin’ and a-worryin’
Jody's got your girl and gone”.
Folks keep whisperin’ in my ear
“Ain't no need feelin' blue
Ain’t no need thinkin’ too much
‘Cos Jody's got your sister, too”
Better tighten up to save your hide
The boss says it won’t be long now
Then it'll be easy to breathe
For six long years I’ve been in the pen
Don’t wanna come to this place again
You better keep your head down
‘Cos there’s nothing you can do
Don’t you even think about runnin’
‘Cos Rattler is too fast for you
Ohhh you better stay out of trouble
If you don’t wanna catch the hall
The boss man is too good a shot
And you’d never climb that wall...
You’d never get to climb that wall...

Wasted Days

WASTED DAYS
Day after day
I queue up for my meager pay
I wanna have fun
But I don’t, I don’t have the time
Night after night
I feel closer to my demise
And I can’t hold the wheel
and I can never keep it straight
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth
Life’s a bitch but it ends up too soon
Weeks and months they just rush by
And the years are piling up high
I wonder why all my days are so short now
So much shorter than when I was young
Oh how I struggle to find my piece of mind
Only days that seem to be endless are
The bitter ones
The bell has rung and I’m in town
Down the slope and I can’t slow down
One more day has just flown by
I feel the years piling up high
I wonder why all my days are so short now
So much shorter than when I was young
Oh how I struggle to find my piece of mind
Only days that seem to be endless are
The bitter ones
